AHIMSA
Non - violence in thought .Our actions may create violence in the lives of other people or sometimes for ourselves. Are we doing right with our bodies(by eating unneccesary food or things that we have done in the past or our actions in our relationships? Violence within us can create negative thoughts. SATYA
Truth in thought ,words, actions .
The Sanskrit word 'Sat' means true nature. Yama is intended to align the truth within
ourselves with what we say and do .There should be no difference between ourselves inside and out .
Yogis should not speak ill or gossip about another person . Yogis should try to be honest as they
can in every scenario ,but employ ahimsa if they think it might hurt others . (Think before you speak )
ASTEYA
Non-stealing from others in thoughts, words, actions
Avoid fraud, cheating, or using unfair means to acquire wealth or possessions.
Ensure that all professional and personal actions are transparent and honest.
BRAHMACHARYA
Moderation, non-indulgence ,right use of energy
The word Brahmacharya is a behaviour that leads us towards the divine .
We neither over-indulge in external sensory activity nor completely restrain it.
We find a middle path for our energy that allows us to find peace & harmony - a balance within .
In daily life over- indulgence can be avoided regarding phone or too much excercising etc .
Think about maintaining balance in your life and be more Brahman .
APARIGRAHA
Non-attachment ,non -greed, non- possesiveness
How many things in life do we cling onto even if they no longer serve us ?
We might be refusing to forgive people who have wronged us in the past .
Live with only what is necessary, Detach from material posessions , avoid greed to achieve
spiritual liberation and more peaceful life .By living with less, an individual can reduce stress,
gain more time , freedom .One way to practice aparigraha is to give away the things that have
not been used in a year ,to make a shopping lists to avoid impulse buys and to share resources
to prevent waste .
